Making the complicated simple
Deploying a stent into the damaged vertebrae of cancer patients is a complicated procedure, we worked with Sotiera to make a precision procedure as simple as 1,2,3,4
This device is used in the treatment of vertebral compression fractures in patients with osteoporosis, cancer and traumatic injuries. This delivery system deploys a self expanding stent from inside a flexible curved cannula into the anterior segment. After expansion this stent is then injected with cement via a port on the handle.
The interior mechanical design of this device is based around the simplicity of hand rotation for deployment. Through research it was determined that this clinical procedure would be best suited to a rotary deployment by the physician. Therefore a clever sequence of internal rotary pathways manages the precision deployment of the stent prior to cementing.
