Designing from the inside

Minimising operational steps and maximising operation control, The first of its kind, an esophageal stent release system allowing direct monitoring of the stent during placement.

Added control and monitoring generally means lots of extra steps for physicians but through product assessment and a video study of the existing product at work in a real medical situation, we, the design team at Dolmen, began to understand how the physician interacts with the system.

This understanding has allowed us to create a single handed operation with an actuation trigger, a reverse clutch and 14 gear wheels. This needed new matching mechanical engineering and a proof of principle prototype was commissioned to support the new design.

We worked with Cooks development team to create this new single handed operation, a breakthrough in stent controlled release delivery systems.
