Getting to grips with
biopsy handles
Designing a universal device that gets to grip with ergonomics ensuring a comfortable experience for surgeons and ultimately patients
The device is used in combination with an endoscope to remove growths or tumours from within the body. The existing handle design had a simple thumb stem and a ‘cotton reel’ spool, which was considered to be dated due to the 360° revolved form. However, it was very easy to use and
provided a universal grip, which needed to be maintained in the new design.
Dolmen achieved this by creating a spool that was neither a 360° revolution nor a planar grip, but a hybrid of the two. The resulting geometry is more comfortable to use and exudes a very considered and modern appearance.
